CHING MING FESTIVAL, DIM SUM AND GOOD COMPANY

This long weekend has mostly involved friends, family and food. With trips to an exhibition, eating great Taiwanese food and then spending Sunday with family and paying respects to our ancestors for Ching Ming festival followed by dim sum.

Feel very lucky to have managed to get a copy of t Feel very lucky to have managed to get a copy of the latest print run of Fan Ho’s Yesterday before it sold out. It’s been on my wish list for the longest time! 😍

So happy to be able to flick through these unfamiliar scenes of Hong Kong in the 1950s - the era when my dad’s parents moved from Sunwui (XinHui) and settled in HK. @fanhophotography’s photography is so special and captures a bygone era. It’s crazy to see how almost nothing of the HK I know exists in these photos. 

The other photobook is Concrete Stories by @romainjacquetlagreze (his rooftop photos are fascinating) and they go perfectly together! 💛

Mine and my sister’s Chinese names were all chosen traditionally. Back in HK, my grandparents consulted with a fortune teller in HK with our birth dates/times etc and then sent my parents a bunch of lucky characters. Sooo apparently our names are lucky/meaningful to us! ✨

My name Winnie on the other hand was chosen from a TVB drama (TVB is a HK Broadcasting company) and is probably one of the most common Western-Chinese names everrr 🤣
