Birmingham is pretty awesome when it comes to food these days and it’s high time I started blogging more about my local food scene. One of the newest additions to the city is Bonehead which specialises in fried chicken – easily one of my favourite things in life. With Lap Fai Lee acting as the consultant chef, it was always going to be a winner in my eyes. By the way, if you love food and don’t follow him on Instagram, you really should. You can thank me later…
So one evening, a group of us went to get our fried chicken fix. Located on Lower Severn Street, next door to Cherry Reds, Bonehead is easy to spot with it’s black and white hand painted shop sign. It looks pretty cool. It has a bar downstairs which specialises in craft beer and a small restaurant upstairs. As expected from a new restaurant with a first come first serve basis, we expected a bit of a wait so we popped our names down and went next door for some drinks. After a bit of a wait, we were seated and SO ready for our chicken! Luckily, I packed my camera in my bag because you know, the camera always eats first…
The menu is short and sweet and we all went for Bonehead fried chicken and a bunch of waffle fries. I went for the hothead leg and thigh fried chicken and we shared hothead wings with comeback sauce and Soy honey butter wings. All delicious.
It makes me really happy that Birmingham has a place like this and I’ll definitely be taking friends who visit here. I’ve heard some mixed reviews from some fellow diners which is to be expected from such a new restaurant while they iron out any initial issues. However when I went, everything ticked the fried chicken boxes for me – crispy, moreish and the coating was just right. Next time, I’m going to go for a burger (the hotter the better), more of the waffle fries and definitely more wings. I would absolutely recommend the soy honey butter wings to everyone. I could eat those all over again right now…
