2012: Happy New Year

Posted on: 31 December 2012

HK Skyline TST
I can't resist doing one more post before the year is out. It's been an awesome year and I felt the need to put one of these year in review posts together. I've only chosen a handful of photos and some of these you've seen before but some of them are new but here we go! 2012 started with a job hunt that was proving to be quite slow and at the end of February I took the plunge and disappeared off to Hong Kong for a few months to work but also had equal measures of play as I got to catch up with family, old friends and make some awesome new ones. I loved every minute from the simple things like walking to the bus stop after work where I would catch views like the one below to discovering new parts of HK with friends!

On my return, my sister had booked us tickets to see Incubus at Brixton Academy. They've been the soundtrack of a huge chunk of my life. I've seen them several times on arena tours and festivals but not at a venue as small as Brixton. I was instantly transported back to my school days!
Incubus
The Summer also saw the Wedding of my housemate Nat from my Art History days at Uni. It was a beautiful wedding and I couldn't have been happier for the lovely couple.
Botanical Gardens
Ever since I heard about the opening of the Warner Brother's Harry Potter Studio Tour, I knew I had to go. So one day my dad treated us to a fantastic day out with my sisters. As you can tell from this photo - we were so happy to be there!
Sirius' Bike
The next highlight of the year was being treated to Bestival by the wonderful guys over at Echo Falls. It's hands down the best festival I've ever been to. I took my friend Rachael who after some thought is one of the very first people I made friends with at uni. She recently got engaged just before Christmas, on the ice at Somerset House. Swoon! Congrats Rach!

In November I started a new job and celebrated my 26th birthday. A number that I still can't quite believe - but I had a lovely evening with some of my very best friends that I've known since school. That's 15 years of friendship right there. Sally is leaving for Australia next year and Hannah is planning on working abroad so who knows when I will spend my birthday with these guys again.
Birthday 26 Only a few weeks ago - my sister and cousin trooped down to Wembley stadium to see Big Bang. A K-Pop group that I never ever imagined I would see in the UK. So cue lots of fangirling and lots of happy dances when I saw those boys that night...
Big Bang Wembley So that was a random cap of some of my highlights from this year. It's been a good one. I hope you all have a fantastic NYE, whether you're staying in or partying it up. 2013 is going to be awesome - I just know it!!!

My Festive Food

The past few days have been non-stop eating for most of us so here are a whole bunch of food photos taken mostly via my iPhone. For my family, the feasting kicked off on Christmas Eve where we all trooped over to my aunts, as it was her turn to host the annual hot pot dinner! We had all sorts of food to cook in our hot pots from fresh homemade fish balls, razor clams, beef, prawns, scallops and lots of veg.

The next day it was all hands on deck at our house as we prepared traditional Christmas lunch. It's funny how much you can eat even when you're full from the night before! Everything smelled so good.

On the evening we have a huge family gathering at my grandmas - the kind where not everyone can fit in the living room and the floor is covered with toys and small children. The main dishes of the day were grandma's lobster, cooked the traditional Chinese way with plenty of ginger and spring onions. There was also Roast Duck, Steamed Sea Bass, Grandma's Hakka belly pork with taro and crispy suckling pig. We also celebrated my cousin's birthday with a big Hello Kitty cake from the Chinese bakery which had a chestnut filling.

Lastly on Boxing day my dad always organises dinner with a couple of family friends and we had some of my favourite foods at our usual Cantonese restaurant. We had Chinese simmered chicken with ginger and spring onion, Salt, Pepper and Chilli soft shell crab, Steamed Eel in black bean sauce, Claypot fish and Crab with Spring onions and ginger on a bed of noodles.

Phew! I think it's time to hibernate after all that food. It's been a good few days and I know that next year will creep up on us just as fast because I still remember writing last year's Christmas post!

2012 has turned out to be a pretty awesome year and I can only hope that next year will be even better. When I return in the New Year with my next post, it will be my 5th year of blogging. Now, that is definitely some food for thought....see you next year!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Card 2012Just a very quick post wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. The next few days are full of festivities and feasting. I'm looking forward to our Chinese spin on Christmas which consists of hot pot, Christmas Dinner and then an epic lobster dinner at my grandmas with immediate family. This is about 20+ of us which I can imagine is quite daunting for any new members to the family but it's always good fun, super rowdy and often ending with noisy clattering games of Mahjong. Perfect.

I hope everyone has an amazing few days and has a great Christmas break from school or work. I'll be back with plenty of food posts but for now - Merry Christmas everyone!

Fine Dining and Big Bang

In my last post I mentioned about my awesome trip to London and boy, did it live it to expectations. It was my cousin's birthday and we all went to Apsleys, a very fancy Italian restaurant inside the luxury hotel located on Hyde Park Corner. Of course I took some photos so here we go!
Apsleys 1
We started with an Amuse Bouche which is a little hors d'Ĺ“uvre, they had much fancier descriptions but this was a crispy risotto ball with crushed peas. This was followed by a Pumpkin and Ginger soup with crispy ravioli - I'm a fan of anything ginger and the flavours in this soup were amazing and easily the best dish that I tried that day. My main was the Gnocchi with wild mushrooms and pumpkin foam which was flavoursome and buttery.

For dessert I had the Muesli crumble with yoghurt foam and blueberry sorbet and then we were whisked away and seated in the lounge area by a roaring fire which was lovely. Here we sipped on freshly brewed coffee and a final chocolate and sweet selection. I have to say, I've only eaten at one other place for fine dining and Apsleys didn't let me down - it's pricey but absolutely worth it for a special occasion. A big, BIG shout out and thank you to my eldest cousin who was super generous treated us all - it was awesome!
Big Bang headline
The second reason we were in London was to attend the Big Bang concert at Wembley. Big Bang are the biggest band in Asia and I've been so excited to the lead up ever since we managed to get tickets. Just to highlight this, they've never EVER played Europe before - let alone the UK and so to sell out 2 dates at Wembley Arena is a pretty big deal! I have SO much love for them - hard to understand when you're not into Korean Pop (or any other languages) but they are AWESOME. Here are some pics and a video for all the Big Bang fans out there!

TOP MCM Segway
They are also HUGE advocates of MCM and so here is TOP on his MCM branded segway! Their choreography was also brilliant and their tour was choreographed by Laurie Ann Gibson who is super well known for working with Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
Big Bang Boys
Big Bang 3

Oh it was such an awesome day and it makes me smile every time I think about it - a little sad that it is all but a memory now though! I hope I get to see them again in the UK or else my sister and cousin have said that someday we'd like to see them in Korea or Japan. Haha, we like to dream!

Hope everyone has a lovely week - I've done all my shopping now and Christmas is less than a week away, but seriously, how FAST has Christmas crept up on us this year?!

I can't believe it's been a whole 9 days since I last posted. Seriously, the ultimate enemy of a blogger is definitely the very small window of decent daylight in the winter months. I've also started a new job which means I am still very much getting into a new routine and fighting the urge to just be a slob at home rather than get back on the laptop and respond to emails and comments. Yeah I've been a bad blogger recently but have no fear, I have LOADS planned over the holidays, starting with an amazing day out on Saturday. I've actually been back and forth to London quite a lot recently hanging out with friends but I am off to London again this Saturday. We are going for some fine dining at Michelin starred restaurant, Apsleys at the Lanesborough Hotel in Knightsbridge for my cousins' birthday and then some K-pop action in the shape of Big Bang at Wembley. I can't wait, yay!!

Alexander McQueen SS13 : Out of this World!

It's been a long time coming but here are my pictures from the McQueen press day that I attended a little while ago. I actually took a million photos so I'll keep Menswear and Accessories for another post, because the sheer amount of detail is mind blowing and I'd hate for some pieces to get lost in one super photo-heavy post. So without further ado....

The Honeycomb theme is so strikingly beautiful and my photos don't do justice at all to the painstaking detail that goes into the making of these amazing pieces. To me, they're not just high fashion Haute Couture, they are pretty serious contenders as pieces of Art in themselves! This is probably reflected in the fact that I walked around in awe as if I was in a Fashion Exhibition...but then the realisation set in that I was in a showroom and I could touch everything (including those little jewelled bees) excellent!
