Lucky Red

31 January 2011

I love colour and red is one that I never used to wear much...until recently. I now own a red jacket, a red blouse and a new red dress. All of which have either made an appearance on here or will do! With Chinese new year beginning in a few days, it's probably fitting to start the new year with a colour that's seen as so traditionally lucky.

Sometimes you buy something that you just want to wear all the time. This is one of them, I adore the blouse and I've worn it a multitude of ways since I received it. Tucked into skirts, worn long with leggings, tied up and I'm sure there are many more ways to wear it!

cut out satchel
The satchel is lovely, especially the cut out detail that looks a little like broderie anglaise. Unfortunately it tends to sag when you put lots of things inside. Perhaps I need to learn to pack lighter.

What makes the blouse even luckier is that I received it after A Wear asked me to choose a few things and review their website/order process. I can honestly say that the process was pain free and everything arrived quickly. So a lovely big thank you to A Wear and Lynsey!

There's Art everywhere...

27 January 2011

Sometimes you are so used to routine that you don't notice pretty details. I was preparing some dinner, cutting up some Bok Choy/Pak choi (whichever you prefer to call it) when my youngest sister pointed out the rose shapes in the bits that I cut off. So I grabbed my camera and had to share them on here!

A last pretty detail is yet more of my sister, Hailey! I snapped a picture of her ASOS cardigan (sadly all sold out now) which has the loveliest pattern. I need to get a full shot of her outfit soon.

A joint outfit post is in the pipeline at some point but that's enough of Hailey for now, I promise I'll be in the next post!

Hailey: Moss Green

22 January 2011

I took these of Hailey just over a month ago, when the snow first left a thin blanket of snow on the ground- before the snow caused all the chaos in the UK. I can't believe Christmas was so long ago now! One great thing about taking photos out in the snow is that photographs turn out lovely and bright and colours seem so much sharper!

I really love how the colour is all in the accessories and that her headband picks out the moss green in her scarf perfectly.

More about the scarf, I remember buying an armful of these pashminas when I went to Paris for a university study trip, 3 years ago. Gifts aren't always easy to buy so I'm so pleased that she still uses this scarf!

The Regulars

18 January 2011

This outfit is made up of some of my favourites that are so easy to turn to when I just can't be bothered with thinking about outfits. We all have those days right?

The red jacket, Mona Lisa Chav Tee (also styled here) and Alphabet tights are all interesting pieces on their own. Bloggers can't seem to get enough of the House of Holland tights and for good reason, they're easily the most ladder resistant tights I own. However, I may have tempted fate now that I've said that!

Lastly Hailey and I went to Jamie's Italian for some lunch the other day. Price wise, it's the same as going to any popular chain restaurant which is great. The Truffle Tagliatelle is my favourite dish there at the moment and even better, it's one of the cheapest pasta dishes!

The other dish is the south coast frito misto which is made up of various fish of the day. Yummy!

All Aboard the Bloggers Bus...to Next!

14 January 2011

Earlier in the week I traveled to Leicester for the Next Blogger's event which turned out to be a lot of fun!

You know when you walk into a room and you realise it's a room full of your friends? That's exactly how it felt when I hopped on the bus that was provided by Next, which took us to their Headquarters. It was fun to be reunited with so many blogger friends and also make lots of new ones too!
Next pass
Breakfast canapes
After the breakfast canapes, we gathered for a presentation on the up and coming Spring collection from Next.
Next presentation
It was so interesting to see the mood boards showing where their design inspiration came from. Key trends include colour blocking, stripes, neon details, seventies prints and pretty blouses in delicate pale colours. The collection, White Heat is an all-white collection (inspired by India) with interesting textures and details and for Next, sticking to just one colour for a collection is quite unusual and actually, quite exciting.

After the presentation, we were set a styling challenge. We hit the mock shop (where all the window displays/store layouts are decided and rolled out to the rest of the UK stores) and attempted to style our pieces! I was thankful for not being given the wide legged jeans (can you even imagine- they were as tall as me!) and was given a white blazer to style.
Once outfitted, we had a bit of a photo shoot. I find these kinds of things really weird and I always feel so awkward in front of the camera and it's hard not to feel a bit twitchy! It's not really the same as taking your own photo or getting your Mum/Sister to take your photo. However, the picture turned out OK! I wish I had brought some ribbon with me or had some kind of bow tie to complete this outfit!

After the challenge, we all gathered for some drinks, a chat and some more yummy treats!

Finally, they chose 5 winners from the styling challenge!

While I have to admit that Next is not normally a store I usually think to shop in, it's definitely made me realise that I need to get over it. The style challenge did what Next hoped it would do, opening our eyes to see what Next has to offer. There are definitely some gems to be found in store!

>>Update! Here is a video I filmed at the event. It's kind of awkward, I get my own blog name wrong and no one likes the sound of their own voice but...here you go!

Thank you to all at Next for inviting me (especially Jenny), looking after us and making the day so much fun!

ViVi: January 2011

09 January 2011

ViVi is dated two months ahead so this issue is kinda old now but I think they're fun to dip into whenever you need a bit of inspiration. That's what I tell my mom when she eyes up my growing stack of ViVi magazines in my room (I fear one day they'll all end up in a recycling bin when I am unawares!). It used to be Vogue, ID and Dazed that I hoarded, but those are all in storage now and a colourful stack of Japanese magazines now take their place. Anyway, I couldn't hold back with scanning just a few of my favourite pages so er...here are a mighty 17 for you! Enjoy!
