I love a good bit of illustration and when they appear in magazines, I quite often study the page for a little longer than the usual photographic editorials, taking in the pencil strokes, the careful details and how the artist has been able to render different textures. When I received Monki Magazine #3 issue (Sign up here to get your free copy if you haven't already!) I paused for a long time at these wonderful illustrations by Annelie Carlström. So of course, I have to share them.

I love her minimal use of colour, used just to pick up details and enhance textures. When I looked her up I found that she's also an active blogger over at Annelie Carlström Illustration, so definitely a new blog that I will be visiting routinely. I wish I could sketch nearly half as well!

Wow, these illustrations are beautiful! I also love the way she drew the texture, and the clothes the hair - so awesome! :D And is it just me, or most of the awesome illustrators come from countries like Norway and Sweden? Just an observation. :)

ReplyDeleteOh I forgot to answer your Zola comment!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Nana, it was my first time reading Zola. His irony and naturalist descriptions are really up my alley, I had lots of laughs with this book! I agree, he describes perfectly the décor, clothing, faces.. for someone studying the 19th century it really must be very helpful! I think I'll read Au Bonheur des Dames next :)
I totally agree. I really appreciate a good illustration.
ReplyDeleteLooove! I love her fun yet very organized style! The way she plays with her lines for the hair is amazing!! love your blog btw! totally following you! hope you do the same!
