Another Soiree...

28 June 2010

I'm back from Marrakesh and back to reality with a bump. I've got lots to do with a dissertation to write and of course an update on my Moroccon adventure. I'm still waiting for some friends to upload some holiday snaps so bear with me and I can get my holiday post together!

Until then, here are some pics from the Art History Soiree I attended a few weeks ago. While I don't study Art History anymore, I have several friends who still do and some are even progressing to a PhD in October. So I still have a fair few links to my old University department and it's nice escaping the Business School and returning to the 1930s grade II building I know all too well!

Vivi Morocco

22 June 2010

I very rarely do scheduled posts...but I am in Marrakesh, Morocco and I'm probably drinking lots of mint tea and exploring the souks with my classmates.

So, what better than a post filled with scans of my favourite magazine's Moroccon editorial? Pretty much perfect I'd say!

So I'm definitely not casually lounging around in the desert or wearing skinny jeans in the dry heat...but I will definitely be browsing the wares at the markets! I'm back at the weekend so look forward to a post (or two) dedicated to my trip!

A Whole lotta food...

19 June 2010

This post should carry a food warning...do not read if you're hungry! I feel like such a fatty putting this post together as I realised I have taken few outfits but a whole lotta food pics instead.

I visited one of my favourite restaurants in Birmingham, Mount Fuji for some bento lunch with my friend.

A day ago, I went out for a meal for a friend's birthday. We settled for food at Las Iguanas and I had the Xim Xin which is a Brazilian chicken lime curry...so yummy! I love it when food is presented in unusual ways.
It was my aunts birthday today and I bought some amazing luxury chocolates from Artisan du chocolat at Selfridges! So pretty.

I also chose some bars of chocolate too because we love our unusual food. Matcha (green tea) is green in colour and so yummy. The ginger and lemon grass one is delicious...one which I've definitely got to try again.

My aunt's birthday dinner consisted of lots of homemade sushi. We actually made far too much and there is sooooo much left over!
I regret taking out a super long contract on my mobile phone which means I am super bored of it already. So I jumped at the opportunity when I saw some deco stickers and decided to kit out my phone! Yes, it's super tacky and I now have lots of gems lost on my bedroom floor...but I like it and will keep me amused for a little longer!

I hope this post didn't leave you guys too hungry. This weekend I will be packing my suitcase in anticipation for Marrakesh on Monday...I must get my list together, I'm so afraid of forgetting to pack something! Hope you have a fab weekend, let me know what you guys have planned!

Treats and goodies...

14 June 2010

My grandparents and aunts from Hong Kong arrived last Wednesday for a 3 week visit and as a result, we've been quite busy since then, with various meals to arrange and generally spending as much time as possible with them.

One of the meals was spent at La Tasca where we feasted on yummy tapas.

A pic of Becky (lil' sis) and my grandma. Do you guys like my new cardigan? It's a gift from my aunts. It has printed shoes all over it, so cute!

My aunts were wearing these watches and I couldn't help but snap a picture. So adorable!

As always, they came bearing gifts of the food variety. It's no secret that I adore making sushi so they stocked up my supplies with various seasonings!
...and nori shape punchers in the shapes of bunnies and hearts.

They came with armfuls of yummy candy. From super sour lemon, strawberry, red bean, green tea matcha (my personal fave), cola, coffee fudge and milk candy.
Lil' sis Becky got this awesome Hello Kitty clock.

My other sis, Hailey and I got a new purse each. They live near a outlet boutique in Hong Kong where often, ex-display designer items/samples are sold at a much lower price and they managed to score these Valentino purses for us. So cute!

Yesterday we managed to have a BBQ and avoided the downpour later that afternoon. As always, we have our BBQ typically, Chinese style with everyone huddled around and taking care of their own food on individual skewers. We began with frankfurters which are the fastest to cook and especially best if like me, you've been hanging around waiting for the BBQ all day!
I can't believe I'm off to Marrakesh a week today! Cannot wait and really must begin to think about packing!

Summer Ball

11 June 2010

So in September I started my masters and before I knew it, the end of the summer term arrived and this was marked by a wonderful Summer ball. It was the perfect excuse to let our hair down, get all dressed up before we dedicate our remaining few months to the writing of our dissertations.

I think I was super lucky with this dress which I bought on a whim at ASOS.

The ball was held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens which is such an impressive 15 acre garden and one which I've never fully explored before. We were lucky because the weather was gorgeous and we were able to have a bit of a wander in the grounds before we settled in for our meal. The gardens are reknown for it's beautiful peacocks. Stunning!
After our wander, we moved to the large reception room which was rather fancy!
Not long after we poured the first glasses of wine, our 3 course meal began. We had a red pepper and basil soup, but clearly I couldn't resist trying it before I took this photo.
Our main was chicken with a green beans, vegetable parcel and a the creamiest mash potato ever.
The dessert of white chocolate and fruit jelly trifle was seved in little glass teacups.
I took hundreds of photos after the meal which mainly consisted of dancing to a live band, posing for cheesy photos and dancing to the cheesy tunes provided by the DJ.
My feet were hurting so much by the end of the night but it was an awesome night and definitely one which we won't forget in a hurry!
