One of my aunts who lives in Hong Kong, recently went on a business trip to Shanghai and told me all about this fabulous restaurant that she visited. She loved it so much that she sent me a whole bunch of photos of the restaurant and well, it would be rude not to share them on this blog!
I was interested to learn that Shanghai Tang is a luxury brand from China who offer a whole range of products from bespoke tableware to ready to wear garments with the theme of contemporary Chinese design. Similar to Ikea, they took this lifestyle concept and introduced a (separate) resturant, albeit a much more upmarket and luxurious one at that. I'm afraid that at Shanghai Tang Cafe there aren't any meatballs here (but my, I do love Ikea meatballs!) and is er...much pricier.
Love the contrasting colours of the armchairs, though I wouldn't be too happy if I ended up on a stool instead!
Just the plates alone, make me want to visit!
Clearly for a luxury design brand, presentation is key and as my aunt recalls the food was quite delicious too!

When I was in Hong Kong in 1996 I was so excited to go to Shanghai Tang. They opened in a big space in NYC years later...it didn't work out...so they downscaled and have a much smaller store here now.

when i went to hong kong, i stopped in shanghai tang. its really cute, i loved it all but it was a lil exspensive :S my mums from shanghai and she loved it also!!

ahhh shanghai tang, i love them for their traditional chinese garments and the quirky household items and honestly, walking past the store on pedder street (central) i love getting a whiff of their ginger flower room space, so heavenly. Isn't shanghai tang from HK though? I know for sure that a singaporean opened it David Tang (yay singapore pride!)

ReplyDeleteWinnie... there's a Shanghai Tang shop on Sloane Street in London, so you don't need to travel to Shanghai! I don't think it has a restaurant though, but you could probably find the plates, and if not the plates then the clothes. I went to the shops in HK and Shanghai and thought they were fantastic ^-^

Oh WOW! those swan shaped things look amazing! I love the goldfish detail on the tea cups too. And yes, I would recommend the book, but I just read another one I which I would recommend even more! It was Lottie Moore's A Gate at the Stairs. I read it in 2 days it was so good!
