Tales of the sewing machine...

These photos were taken a week or so ago. I made the skirt last Summer when I saw this fun fabric in the haberdashery (I love that word) department in my local John Lewis. The elasticated waistband is a bit messy (hence the belt) due to my skills having not much improved from the time I destroyed all the needles on the sewing machines, when I took textiles at school. I remember my teacher's look of disbelief that was only ever reserved for me when I broke yet another needle. Luckily, my sewing machine emerged unscathed!

I've been in a wierd daze today, possibly a combination of being stuck in-doors studying, the glorious sunshine and sound of children playing outside!.

On a side note, I've just booked to go to Marrakesh (flights were only £80!) with friends at the end of June for a few days. Has anyone been and got any recommendations? Excited!

  2. My goal for this summer is to make my self a skirt. If that works out I might even try a dress. Although, the last time I attempted to sew something was in textile 8 and I didn't even finish it because it was sooo bad. You did a great job!

  6. looking good! hehe i know what you mean about the messy elastic. I have about 2 skirts and 1 pair of pants (the one my sister made) that has a kind of messed up waist band. >< I don't think it's hard, I think you just need to be patient and pin and then sew carefully... but oh wells, i'm unprofessional. i just painted for like 4 hours. wut happens when u procrastinate... btw, have fun in Marrakesh.

  9. I loved your sewing story. I've been known to talk to the sewing machine. As of yet, I have not given him a name. I think if it did as it was told, I would be calling it a "Her".

So love the print of the skirt.

  20. Gorgeous skirt - I wish I could sew! Ooh lucky you, Marrakech is amazing! They speak French as well as Arabic so make sure you can say 'no thanks' in both languages because you get hassled by sellers a lot. Also be careful you don't get run over by motorbikes in the Souk (bazaar), and haggle hard with stall owners or they will over charge you; but defintately go to the Souk its an amazing experience! Also be careful taking photos because if people think you are taking a photo of them they will demand money from you, so I usually asked before I took photos in shops. You could also take a hike in the Atlas mountains, the views are incredible! Hope you have a great time.

  26. Great job, Winnie! I also love how you styled it. Marrakesh should be beautiful. My advise would be to keep in mind it's a Muslim country (cover your shoulders, ideally long sleeves) and keep your cool with over eager guys... At least that helped me in Marocco.
